How It All Fits Together

 

Over the last several years we have noticed a trend in more and more organizations recognizing and acknowledging the challenge of burnout. It is something we hear a lot about these days in our fast-paced, results-driven society.  Thanks to increasingly more comprehensive research, we are becoming more aware of the costly effects burnout can have on Employees and organizations as a whole.

A recent article from the New York Times cites overwhelming evidence of increased burnout and lack of engagement of Employees in America, stating that just 30% of Employees feel engaged at work. In a 2012 study, Gallup found that “companies in the top quartile for engaged employees, compared with the bottom quartile, had 22% higher profitability, 10% higher customer ratings, 28% less theft and 48% fewer safety incidents.”

It’s clear that burnout is a serious challenge that impacts individuals and organizations on several levels, but what is the solution? As a servant-leader, how can we help our Employees and even ourselves, get out of burnout?   Is it even possible to be an effective servant-leader when we are in burnout?
