I’m a gardener and have always felt drawn to flowers.  But recently I learned something I didn’t fully appreciate about why we traditionally send flowers on special occasions.  I suppose not everyone has the same response as I do but recently, when I had surgery and returned to a house filled with flowers I was so moved.  So many were sent that I could enjoy an arrangement in every room.  And I noticed that as I entered a room, I could feel my heart energy expand as I was reminded of those who sent the flowers and just felt surrounded by abundant healing love and nurturing friendship.

Being a very practical person I have questioned in the past if it wouldn’t make more sense to send a contribution to a charity in honor of the person rather than to send flowers that would wilt with time.  Well I experienced why sending flowers can be so powerful.  Just a week ago, a dear friend lost her spouse and we attended the service.  Walking into the reception area and seeing a bank of glorious flowers really lifted my heart and brought amazingly life-giving energy to the room and the occasion.  I noticed the same flood of healing energy as the organ played favorite hymns, funny stories were shared and comforting psalms were read.

One of the many gifts coming to me from this recent journey of healing is heightened awareness of energy fields and noticing when my energy expands and decreases and what is triggering each.  To give a special person in your life the gift of nurturing energy is one of those intangibles which can be so important.  I have a fresh respect for the power of a well-chosen gift of flowers.  For me these flowers of all

sizes and varieties were like a gathering of my most special friends and Clients, nurturing me back to health.  Powerful indeed!
